INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Unpacking your Sactionals® Base
1. Sactionals® Bases come packed in tight-fitting cardboard boxes with each individual piece within wrapped in individual plastic bags.
2. Cut the packing tape being careful not to harm the product within. Remove the upholstered frames within and flatten the boxes for disposal.
3. Remove the plastic bag covering the Side Piece and discard—being careful to keep away from children.
4. Lay the Base on the floor upside-down thus exposing the underside with the Velcro facing up.
5. The seat cushion and back pillow are housed within this frame for packing and shipping.
6. You will notice two exposed wooden planks that need to be removed. These planks are wedged between the bulging seat cushion beneath and the underside of the inside edge of the hardwood reinforced frame. The planks are there to keep the cushions from bulging out and breaking the box.
7. Push downward (into the cushion) on the wood plank at one end simultaneously sliding it sideways until one end of it is free from being wedged under the frame. Remove the plank(s) and discard.
8. Slide one hand up along the outside edge of the encased seat cushion along the inside of the Base frame and, gripping the 7” thick upholstered seat cushion in your hand, pull it free from the frame.
9. “Fluff” and beat the seat cushion, allowing air inside, causing it to recover from its shrunken state. It may take as long as 4 weeks for the foam cushion to completely recover from being stuffed inside the frame during shipping.
10. Remove the back cushion from underneath the seat cushion—also within the hollow Base frame.
11. Gripping the poly-fiber within the back cushion through the fabric, pull the fiber within apart, fluffing the pillow, making it ready for use.
12. Remove the peg-feet, shoe (wooden block with 4 holes in it) and steel clamp, all packed loose inside of the Base frame, underneath the seat cushion. Remove each from their plastic coverings and discard the excess plastic bags.
13. Hand tighten the 4 peg-feet as tightly as possible in the threaded holes on each underside corner of the Base—the tighter they are screwed in, the less likely they are to ever work loose or break off.
14. Turn the Base Piece over standing it on its feet.
15. Place the seat cushion on top of the base frame’s top surface and the back cushion on top of it leaning against a wall or use with an attached Sactionals® Side Piece.
16. Sit down. Take a break.
Unpacking your Sactionals® Side
1. Sactionals® Sides come packed in tight-fitting cardboard boxes, with each individual piece within wrapped in individual plastic bags.
2. Cut the packing tape being careful not to harm the product within. Remove the upholstered frames within and flatten the boxes for disposal.
3. Remove the plastic bag covering the Side Piece and discard— being careful to keep away from children.
4. Stand the Side on the floor upside-down, thus exposing the underside, with the Velcro facing up.
5. Remove the “Shoe,” (wooden block with 4 holes in it), from out of the bottom of the Side Piece, where it is inserted like a cassette tape in a gap in the wood.
6. Remove the Clamp and peg-feet from the hole in the center of one side of the upholstered side frame removing the block of foam wedged in the hole which is there only to keep the clamp and peg-feet from moving or falling out.
7. Remove the plastic bags from around the Shoe, Clamp and peg-feet and discard being careful to keep away from children.
8. Hand tighten the 4 peg-feet as tightly as possible in the threaded holes on each underside corner of the Base—the tighter they are screwed in the less likely they are to ever work loose or break off.
9. Turn the Side Piece over standing it carefully on its peg-feet and attach it to a Base Piece using Shoes at the bottom (coupling the peg-feet from each piece) and the clamp, inserted into the side-wall hole of the Side Piece and the adjoining “slit” in the top surface of the Base frame, for vertical stability.
10. Follow the detailed instructions included with each Base Piece to connect Sactionals® Pieces and build custom furniture configurations, as desired.
Covering Your Sactionals® Base
1. Tailored Sactionals® Covers are designed to fit onto Sactionals® Pieces snugly—leaving little room for ripples, wrinkles or bunching. (Covers are sold separately)
2. Sactionals® Covers have Velcro strips along the bottom inside edge of both Base frames and Side frames to attach and maintain a tailored look.
3. Base Covers include 3 components: frame cover, seat cushion cover and back pillow cover.
4. Drape the Base frame cover over an upright Base frame like a fitted sheet over a mattress—be careful not to pull any one side or corner of this Cover down over the Base Frame until all four corners have been fitted—then pull them down successively.
5. Flip the Base frame upside-down on a clean surface and attach the Velcro on the inside of the Covers to the Velcro on the bottom edge of the frame. Start at one corner on the longer side of the rectangular cover. Work around the edge of the frame in a circle until all Velcro is attached doing your best to place the Velcro in a perfectly straight line with no bumps, humps or zig-zags.
6. Ensure that all Cover seams along the corner edges and all pointed corners are lined up perfectly over the edge or corner they are meant to line up with. The whole key to making Sactionals® look great is to get the Covers on extremely straight leaving no exposed khaki corners at the bottom or misaligned seams.
7. Turn the Base frame back over so it is sitting upright on its peg-feet. Inspect the Cover to make sure that the seams and corners of the Cover all line up with the corners and edges of the Piece within.
8. Unzip the seat cushion cover and lay it out flat on the now covered Base frame (a clean surface) with the underside (arced zipper-side) exposed, facing up.
9. Place the 7” thick seat cushion into the arc zipper-end end of the seat cushion Cover with the zipper on the underside of the cushion facing up—exposed. Using your hands, work the inserted edge of the cushion (especially the corners) into this one end of the seat cushion Cover.
10. Bend the seat cushion in half (like a rainbow) allowing you to grasp the opposite (still empty) end of the cushion Cover and wrestle it around the now bent, uncovered end of the seat cushion, working this end of the cushion into the opposite end of the Cover (at the pinnacle of the arc of the zipper path). As the side of the Cover with the arced zipper is the “bottom” of the Cover and the underside of the actual cushion is marked by the straight zipper in the khaki fabric, make sure that both of these are facing “up” or exposed at this moment.
11. Work the seat cushion into the Cover by hand, taking the time to make the edges and corners of the cushion line up perfectly with those of the Cover.
12. Zip the arced zipper closed on the bottom of the seat cushion Cover encasing the seat cushion within.
13. Place the back pillow into the back pillow cover like a pillow into a pillowcase. Zip it closed.
14. Grip the back pillow through the fabric of the Cover and shake it hard from one end and then the other allowing the pillow within to fill out the corners and edges of the Cover.
Covering your Sactionals® Side
3. Lean a naked Side Piece against your knees to balance it.
4. Place the Side Cover on the top edge of the Piece, fitting the Velcro rim of the Cover over the rectangular frame ensuring that the “hole” in one side of the Cover aligns with the hole on the khaki Sactionals® Side Piece it is being placed on.
5. Gently pull the Side Cover down over the Side Piece pulling it down towards the floor first on one end then the other—not pulling it down more than 8” before pulling down the opposite side equally as far.
6. Be sure to align all edges, seams and corners perfectly with the edges and corners of the Pieces within. The whole key to making Sactionals® look great is to get the Covers on extremely straight, leaving no exposed khaki corners at the bottom or misaligned seams.
7. Flip the mostly covered Sactionals® Side Piece upside-down on a clean surface facing the Velcro-lined bottom surface up.
8. Attach the Velcro from the inside bottom long edge of the Cover to one corner of the Side Piece—ensuring that the width of the Velcro is aligned perfectly with the width of the Velcro strip it attaches to. Always attach the Velcro from one of the long edges first.
9. Attach the Velcro on both long edges of the Side Piece, before attempting to attach the Velcro on the shorter “ends” of the Side Cover.
10. As you pull the Velcro tabs of the shorter ends up and over the underside of the Side Piece to attach ensure that each of the 4 khaki corners of the Piece within are hidden by the Cover but do not pull so hard that there are excess bunches of Cover fabric sticking out like “horns” from the corners of the Pieces.
11. Attaching the shorter ends of the Side Covers should be almost like wrapping a gift, where these short “tabs” of Velcro cover the end edges of the longer sides, hiding them and smoothing out the look of the Covers once placed upright and viewed from the front.
12. Flip the Side Piece over standing it on its feet.
13. Massage out any lumps, wrinkles, waves or excess fabric near the corners, edges or in the middle of any of the surfaces of the newly covered Side Piece.
Hooking Sactionals® Pieces together
1. Sactionals® Bases may be connected to other Bases by aligning them side-by-side or end-to-end and placing each Pieces’ peg-feet into Sactionals® “Shoes” or wooden blocks with four holes in them which act as couplers to keep the Pieces from sliding apart. The solid steel clamps may also be used to hook Bases together, “clamping” them together by insertion each “leg” of the clamp into one of the aligned “slits” in the top of each Sactionals® Base.
2. Sactionals® Sides may be connected to Sactionals® Bases by placing the Sides’ feet into Sactionals® “Shoes” or wooden blocks with holes in them which act as couplers to keep the pieces from sliding apart. The solid steel clamps are used to “pinch” the Sactionals® Side Pieces against the vertical face of the Sactionals® Base frame by insertion of one of each “legs” of the clamp into the inside surface of the “hole” on the inside of each Side Piece and one of the slits in the top of the Sactionals® Base Pieces respectively.
3. Sactionals® Bases may be aligned perfectly or offset by 6” as desired. They may be aligned end-to-end or side to side or side-to-end or in various combinations thereof. Sides always attach to Bases, never to each other. Sides may function as “backs” or “arms” in terms of their role in the configuration of recognizable furniture.
4. For more advanced info and tips, see the manual “Hooking Up,” included with each Sactionals® Base Piece.

Assembly Required
Sactionals® require simple assembly when first removed from their package. Peg-feet must be hand tightened into threaded holes, Covers must put on and fastened with Velcro to each piece and individual Pieces must be connected by included couplers or hardware to arrange the two basic components into desirable furniture configurations. No tools are necessary. Complete assembly of a Sactionals® Piece should take the average consumer less than 10 minutes. Depending on the length of time the Sactionals® Base seat cushion has been packed inside of the Base frame, for shipping, before unpacking, it may take up to four weeks for a complete and full recovery from its dented or misshapen state.
This current 2nd generation of Sactionals® or “G2 Sactionals®,” is an adaptation and improvement over G1 Sactionals® originally introduced in 2005. While the overall concept is very similar, the dimensions of the components have changed significantly since the first generation and therefore G1 and G2 Sactionals® Covers are not interchangeable.
